Kiefer Sutherland on the Not Enough Whiskey Tour at Exit/In on May 19th, 2017
Friday May 19th, Kiefer Sutherland sold out Nashville’s historical venue, Exit/In, as part of his Not Enough Whiskey Tour. Most of us are very familiar with Sutherland’s talent in front of a TV and film crew, but very few likely expected this turn of events, especially given that he’s currently in a very highly rated TV drama.
Kiefer Sutherland’s music fits snugly into the country genre but is smooth (and let’s not forget his wonderfully raspy voice), rather than having the old-school twang or the “new country” attempt at a rebel rock sound. Comfortable in front of an audience, he engaged the crowd, sharing some background of the inspiration of the songs. Having written the songs himself, it becomes clear that this is no gimmick, as in the case of other actor-turned-musicians. I can only surmise that writing meaningful songs (this is usually a form of therapy for the writer), and then sharing them with the public would make a person feel very exposed and vulnerable, unlike emoting through a predefined character, as actors are accustomed. Keifer Sutherland was certainly a hit with the crowd, who could not get enough (interestingly, this fan base demographic surprised me with their behavior toward others which was worse than any I’ve experienced at any metal and punk shows).
To summarize, if you want a nice blend of country, with a little infusion of rock, and a chance to see a known and beloved actor show a different facet of talent, this is a show for you.
